Trojans - What Are They and Why Should I Care?
Trojans can be very destructive, not to mention difficult to get rid of once unleashed on your computer.
Trojans are programs that pretend to be something they aren't. They're commonly acquired by way of an email attachment. The email may be innocent looking enough, perhaps even appearing to come from someone you know. The attachment file name may indicate it's a photo, a sound file, or some other innocuous file. When the attachment is opened, nothing happens, or so it appears. In reality you may just have installed a trojan program on your computer.
What can a trojan do? It could totally trash your system. Even worse, it could silently send every piece of personal information on your system to the person who infected your computer with the trojan. Your passwords. Your credit card numbers. Social security number. Bank account numbers. Anything you have on your computer, they could get without you even being aware of it. They could even see everything you type on the keyboard as you type it!
